Job Summary

Assisatant Manager, Comercial (Estimation Division) supports the Commercial Manager in managing all commercial and estimation activities for ship repair projects within the shipyard. The role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and tenders, sourcing and evaluating contractors and subcontractors. The position plays a key role in commercial negotiations, and contract administration to ensure projects are delivered within budget, in compliance with contractual requirements, and in alignment with the shipyard’s profitability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Estimation & Tendering


•    Prepare detailed cost estimates for ship repair projects, including labor, materials, subcontracting, docking, equipment, and specialist services.
•    Analyze technical specifications, drawings, inspection reports, and client requirements to develop accurate and competitive quotations.
•    Prepare bidding documents, commercial proposals, and supporting cost breakdowns for tenders.
•    Attend tender meetings, bid clarification discussions, and negotiations with clients, ship owners, superintendents, and classification societies.
•    Assist in bid strategy development to ensure competitiveness while maintaining commercial viability.


Contractor & Subcontractor Management


•    Identify, source, and pre-qualify contractors, subcontractors, and specialist service providers required for ship repair works.
•    Arrange tenders for subcontracted works and specialist services.
•    Evaluate subcontractor quotations and prepare bid comparison statements.
•    Submit technical and commercial evaluations to the Commercial Manager for review and approval.
•    Assist in subcontractor appointment and contract finalization in accordance with shipyard policies.


Cost Control & Budget Management


•    Monitor project costs against approved budgets and estimates throughout the repair period.
•    Perform cost control activities to optimize expenditure on labor, materials, and subcontracted works.
•    Identify cost variances, risks, and opportunities for savings, and report findings to the Commercial Manager.
•    Support forecasting of final project costs and profitability.


Commercial Settlement & Contract Administration


•    Prepare comprehensive settlement proposals, including multiple settlement scenarios for management review.
•    Obtain internal management approvals prior to quotation/tender settlement.
•    Assist the Commercial Manager in commercial negotiations and final quotation/tender settlement with ship owners, clients, and superintendents.
•    Submit final approved quotation to clients in compliance with contractual terms.

Reporting & Documentation


•    Maintain accurate tender records, cost reports, bid evaluations, and tender documentation.
•    Prepare tender reports and summaries for management review.
•    Ensure compliance with shipyard procedures, contractual requirements, and audit standards.

Key Requirements

  • Education: Diploma Degree / Engineering Degree on Marine Engineering / Naval architecture
  • With 8-10 years Experiences in Shipyard / Fabrication Yard
  • Experience in tendering, cost control, and billing within shipyard or marine projects
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and commercial/ERP systems
  • Strong knowledge of ship repair processes, dry docking, and marine engineering works
  • Expertise in cost estimation, budgeting, and commercial analysis
  • Familiarity with shipyard contracts, variation management, and settlement procedures
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and strong numerical ability
  • Ability to work under tight schedules and high-pressure repair environments

Education

Bachelors in Naval Architect
Diploma in Marine Engineering
