Job Summary

Executive, Commercial (Business Development - Ship Repairs & New Building) supports the shipyard’s commercial and business development activities related to ship repair, maintenance, conversion, and newbuilding projects. The role involves assisting in client coordination, tender preparation, cost estimation support, market research, and internal coordination to help secure new projects and maintain customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development Support
•    Assist in identifying potential business opportunities in ship repairs, dry docking, and newbuilding sectors.
•    Support market research activities to track vessel docking schedules, fleet expansions, and upcoming tenders.
•    Maintain a database of customers, inquiries, and project opportunities.
•    Assist in developing marketing materials, presentations, and capability statements for the shipyard.

 

Client Coordination & Communication
•    Act as a point of contact for routine client communications under supervision of senior BD staff.
•    Assist in organizing client meetings, yard visits, and vessel inspections.
•    Support follow-ups with ship owners, managers, agents, and classification societies.
•    Help maintain professional relationships with existing and potential customers.

 

Tendering & Proposal Assistance
•    Support preparation of tenders, quotations, and proposals for ship repair and newbuilding projects.
•    Coordinate with engineering, planning, procurement, and production teams to collect technical inputs and cost data.
•    Assist in compiling technical specifications, scope of work, and commercial terms.
•    Ensure timely submission of bids and maintain tender tracking records.

 

Commercial & Project Coordination
•    Assist in coordinating pre-contract and post-award activities between clients and internal departments.
•    Support preparation of contract documents, variation orders, and correspondence.
•    Help track project progress from a commercial perspective, including work scope changes and invoicing support.
•    Assist in resolving minor commercial or coordination issues during project execution.

 

Documentation & Reporting
•    Maintain records of inquiries, bids, contracts, and customer communications.
•    Prepare basic sales reports, inquiry logs, and pipeline updates.
•    Ensure documentation complies with company procedures and quality standards.

Key Requirements

•    Basic understanding of ship repair and newbuilding processes
•    Familiarity with shipyard operations and marine terminology
•    Good communication and interpersonal skills
•    Strong coordination and organizational abilities
•    Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications (preferred)
•    Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
•    Willingness to learn commercial and technical aspects of shipyard operations

•    Diploma or bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Business/Management
•    2–5 years of experience in shipyard, marine, or offshore business development / commercial roles
•    Fresh graduates with strong marine background may be considered
•    Prior exposure to ship repair or newbuilding yards is an advantage

•    Office-based role with regular visits to workshops, docks, and onboard vessels
•    May require extended hours during tender submissions or vessel docking periods
•    Occasional travel for client meetings and site visits

Education

Bachelors in Naval Architect or Marine Engineering
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Business & Management Studies
