Job Summary
Responsible for leading and managing all mechanical engineering activities for shipbuilding and repair projects, ensuring compliance with international standards, class requirements, and HSE regulations. The role oversees project execution from planning, design review, procurement, installation, commissioning, and maintenance to project completion, while ensuring quality, safety, cost, and schedule targets are achieved. This position also provides technical leadership, coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and drives operational excellence to ensure successful project delivery and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Skill of good planning for Mechanical scope for new build and repair Projects.
- Ensure all mechanical works comply with international construction codes, engineering standards, and class specifications.
- Plan and perform mechanical ship repairs scope as confirmed in accordance with best marine practices and instructions activities for mechanical systems and equipment with Team.
- Ensure that daily mechanical operations meet quality, safety, and performance standards.
- Coordinate procurement of materials, tools, and spare parts for mechanical works.
- Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications prepared by junior engineers or consultants.
- Lead, coordinate, and execute mechanical engineering tasks in line with project and department objectives.
- Collaborate with classification societies, third-party inspectors, and technical teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Ensure Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures established by the organization are complied with.
- Maintain accurate documentation, technical reports, and records as per company policy and project requirements.
- Supervise the inspection and certification process for mechanical installations, including pressure vessels, piping, and rotating equipment.
- Ensure compliance to production schedule for repair and new construction project.
- Ensure Projects are delivered as per owner satisfaction without LTI.
- Train Department engineer on projects works scope execution and management.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal departments for project execution.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope and budget.
- Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and availability of mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Ensure department Improvement / Innovative plan as per KPI.
- Analyze equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain maintenance records, logs, and history reports.
- Coordinate machine installation, commissioning, and modification activities.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues affecting production performance.
- Assist in continuous improvement and productivity enhancement initiatives.
- Coordinate with technicians, operators, engineers, and supervisors.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job support.
- Should be able to read/review Engineering drawings for repairs and new build scope.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings and improvement discussions.
Key Requirements
Preferred Experience
- 8 to 10 years of relevant mechanical and Marine engineering in shipbuilding, ship repairs and offshore projects. Knowledge of machining for department requirements for repairs and new build projects.
- Experience managing mechanical spare parts and critical spares.
- Coordination with procurement for technical evaluation and purchasing.
- Knowledge of inventory optimization and usage tracking.
- Experience working closely with technicians, operators, engineers, and supervisors.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support.
- Exposure to cross-functional teamwork and shift operations.
- Experience working under HSE, ISO, or statutory safety standards.
- Participation in safety audits, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems.
- Strong awareness of safe maintenance practices in industrial settings.
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Working knowledge of conveyors, boilers, chillers, HVAC, pressure vessels, and piping systems.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, layouts, and P&IDs.
Education and Key Certifications Necessary
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering.
- ASME Certifications.
