Job Summary

This role oversees 33kV HV switching, maintenance governance, protection system integrity, and emergency response in full compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) regulations, the Electricity Supply Act 1990, and Electricity Regulations 1994.

Key Responsibilities

Operation & Control
•Operate and control 33kV electrical installations including HV switchgear, transformers and protection systems in compliance with the Electricity Supply Act 1990, Electricity Regulations 1994 and DC requirements
•Conduct inspections, quality checks, supervise employees, subcontractors and services 

Switching & Safety Procedures
•Adhere to customer freeze periods and communicate relevant dates
•Prepare, review and maintain SOPs and EOPs for 33kV switchgear operations
•Perform and supervise HV switching, isolation, earthing, energization and restoration following PTW, LOTO, SJT and DC safety rules
•Conduct monthly emergency operating drills
•Provide technical assessments for troubleshooting, identifying causes and implementing solutions

Maintenance, Testing & Protection Systems
•Maintain and execute the 52-week maintenance schedule
•Prepare and review checklists for 33kV switchgear and equipment
•Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance, testing and protection relay functionality per ST regulations
•Keep records of relay conditions, calibrations, defects and maintenance activities
•Ensure proper maintenance of card access, CCTV, HVAC systems, coordinating third-party vendors
•Conduct regular inspections of M&E equipment and record readings as per ST requirements

Fault Response & Incident Management
•Respond to electrical faults, failures, and emergencies, perform initial isolation, coordinate restoration, support root cause analysis per ST safety and reporting requirements
•Provide 24-hour emergency support and act as first responder following established procedures
•Resolve escalated technical issues with data centre facilities leads
•Maintain onsite spare parts for uninterrupted operations
•Ensure all PTW and MOP/MOS documentation is approved before work execution
•Comply with change management and raise tickets for all reported findings, ensuring complete resolution
•Address incidents, complaints, breakdowns and repairs promptlSupervision & Competency Control
•Brief all personnel on house rules and electrical safety
•Review methods of statement and ensure permits are approved before work
•Supervise technicians and contractors ensuring only authorized competent individuals work on electrical installations per ST regulations
•Oversee term contractors and service providers to ensure work meets SOPs
•Provide structured training and ongoing education on electrical operations, safety, regulatory compliance, SOPs and lessons learned, incorporating industry best practices for safe and efficient execution

Documentation & Records
•Maintain accurate logbooks, switching records, test reports, single-line diagrams, protection settings, checklists and statutory documents for ST audits
•Assist Competent Visiting Engineers during inspections, escalating and resolving reported issues
•Keep records updated, file ST reports, prepare summaries and compile monthly submissions

Regulatory Compliance, Licensing & Audits
•Ensure continuous compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga licensing conditions including timely renewal of the Electrical Installation License prior to each expiry, support ST inspections and internal audits
•Ensure safety rules and guidelines are always followed

Risk Management & Safety Leadership
•Identify electrical hazards, implement controls and enforce safe work practices to prevent accidents and service interruptions, recommending improvements
•Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime through proactive testing and scheduled work

Electrical System & Qualifications
•Oversee substation and HV operations managing 33kV supply (or stepped-down systems) to ensure operational integrity and efficiency

Key Requirements

•Valid Chargeman B0 (33kV) certificate (ST Malaysia) or equivalent; B0 for 11kV considered with 33kV experience; B4 for 11kV/33kV advantageous
•Available for emergency response and 24/7 on-call support
•5–7 years’ hands-on experience in commercial, industrial, or data centre high-voltage systems (switching, maintenance, protection relays)
•Experience managing technical teams and supervising subcontractors
•Knowledge of M&E and Facilities Management
•Proficient in English; additional languages a plus
•Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills
•Basic MS Office 365 skills; experience with CMMS, BMS, EPMS
•High school diploma/GED with technical certifications; higher electrical engineering qualifications preferred
•Strong organizational and analytical skills to deliver reliable, efficient service to 
stakeholders

Bachelors in Electrical Engineering & Electronics or Electrical Engineering
