Technical Energy Manager

Job Summary

K2 is an international developer, owner and operator of digital infrastructure assets. We are the specialists in providing critical digital infrastructure in the form of Data Centres, Connectivity and Clean Energy to leading technology companies. We lay the physical foundations of the internet, cloud services and tomorrow's digital solutions, today. We are looking for a technical manager that will operate as a centre of excellence in the growth of K2’s energy pillar. This includes leading the delivery and construction of energy projects (including solar and BESS) to power our data centres, technical evaluation of new energy technologies and support energy business opportunity development.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Management
Responsible for overseeing construction of energy projects, including Solar with BESS) as well as Power and Grid Connection Facilities.
Supervising, leading and managing on-site construction teams, site visits and leading inspections related to construction works.
Project management: Monitoring and control of project construction timeline and cost.
Keep track and ensure project milestones and deliverables are met on time, reporting of projects status’ on a weekly basis. Manage Project Budget to minimize cost overruns


Contract management
Lead and support contract negotiations with vendors, suppliers and contractors. Technical review and approval of EPC Contractors Progress Claim.
Drive negotiation strategies with EPC, contractors, suppliers, and service providers and advise leadership on contract risk exposure and mitigation strategies.


Energy Technology Evaluation
Undertake technical evaluation of new energy technologies to supply data centre such as on-site gas / thermal generation, battery storage or nuclear.
Undertake technical analysis on feasibility, deliverability, risks, cost of energy technologies
Business Opportunity Appraisal – Provide technical support for business opportunity origination in the energy sector, including technical inputs for RfPs and client engagement.
Support identification of strategic locations of energy supply and grid availability for development of large-scale data centre campuses.


Stakeholder Management
Coordinating the activities with and between internal and external stakeholders (contractors / suppliers / authorities / regulators / clients).
Coordinate with K2 Technical Teams, Procurement, HSSE, Construction, and other teams.


Energy Data Collection & Analysis
Collect and track energy use across all systems, including power, cooling, lighting, and other equipment.
Keep accurate energy records in line with Energy Commission (EC) requirements.
Identify unusual usage, trends, and areas where energy can be reduced.
Support PUE monitoring and performance benchmarking.


Energy Management System (EnMS)
Set up and manage an Energy Management System following EC guidelines.
Align the system with ISO 50001 and K2’s operations.
Ensure operations and facilities teams follow EnMS processes.
Review and improve the EnMS regularly to match operational or regulatory changes.


Energy Efficiency & Conservation Reporting
Prepare and submit biannual EE&C reports to the Energy Commission as required.
Ensure all submitted data is accurate and complete.
Keep proper records for audits and regulatory checks.
Respond to EC questions or follow‑up requests.


Energy Audits
Organise and manage required energy audits at the Sedenak campus.
Work with registered energy auditors to cover all required systems.
Turn audit findings into practical improvement actions.
Monitor and report progress on implementing audit recommendations.


Advisory & Continuous Improvement
Advise management and operations teams on energy‑saving opportunities and best practices.
Track results of approved energy initiatives.
Stay updated on energy regulations, EC guidelines, and industry standards.
Support sustainability and ESG reporting efforts.


Regulatory Compliance & Liaison
Act as the main contact point with the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).
Ensure compliance with EECA 2024 and EECR 2024.
Maintain a valid REM Type 2 registration, including required training hours.
Inform management of any regulatory changes or EC notices.

Key Requirements

  • At least 10 years of work experience, of which at least 5 years in energy / power generation.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; Chartered / Registered Engineer preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Good command in English, proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin would be advantageous
  • Holding a valid REM Type 1 registration and practicing certificate for a minimum of one (1) year prior to applying for REM Type 2 would be an added advantage
