Senior Executive, Vessel IT

Job Summary

Ensure reliable, secure, and efficient IT operations across the fleet. Support vessel connectivity, onboard systems, cybersecurity, and the delivery of vessel IT projects to enable safe and effective vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Level 2 IT support for vessels, including hardware, software, server, network, and connectivity issues.
  • Monitor and maintain vessel connectivity systems, including satellite communications.
  • Support installation, maintenance, upgrades, and patching of onboard IT systems.
  • Ensure seamless integration between vessel and shore-based/cloud systems.
  • Coordinate with vessel crew, Helpdesk, shore teams, and vendors to resolve IT issues.
  • Maintain vessel IT asset inventory and technical documentation.
  • Support cybersecurity controls, including patching, endpoint protection, and access management.
  • Lead, plan, and execute vessel IT projects, connectivity upgrades, and system implementations across the fleet, ensuring delivery within agreed scope, timeline, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Assist with audits and ensure compliance with company IT policies and maritime standards.
  • Provide user guidance and basic IT training to vessel crew.
  • Take on ad-hoc tasks and projects.

Key Requirements

  • Appropriate qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of relevant IT experience, preferably in maritime or offshore environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, networking, firewalls, and Microsoft technologies.
  • Experience supporting vessel IT infrastructure and satellite communication systems.
  • Good understanding of cybersecurity principles and controls.
  • Experience in project management, vendor management, and system implementation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Good documentation and reporting skills.
  • Knowledge in building AI agents, scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python is an advantage.
  • Must be willing to travel to overseas shipyards and go onboard docked vessels to support projects and attend to operational issues when required.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability, taking responsibility for outcomes and driving issues, projects, and improvements to successful completion.
