Job Summary
The NDT Supervisor is responsible for carrying out and overseeing non-destructive testing (NDT) activities across shipbuilding, repair, and conversion projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform NDT methods such as UT, MT, PT, RT, and VT on hull structures, piping systems, and critical components
- Interpret test results and identify defects against acceptance criteria
- Ensure testing is conducted in accordance with approved procedures and relevant codes/standards
- Supervise and guide NDT technicians (if assigned), ensuring work is carried out correctly and safely
- Coordinate inspection activities with production teams to minimise disruption to operations
- Liaise with classification surveyors and client representatives during inspections
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely Work Done Reports (WDR)
- Maintain proper records of inspection results, calibration logs, and consumables
- Ensure traceability of inspected items and compliance with documentation requirements
- Ensure all NDT activities comply with classification society rules (e.g., ABS, DNV, LR) and project specifications
- Verify calibration status of NDT equipment before use
- Support internal and external audits related to NDT
- Review drawings, ITPs (Inspection Test Plans), and work packs prior to execution
- Plan daily NDT activities based on project schedules and priorities
- Identify potential quality issues early and escalate when necessary
- Follow and enforce safety procedures, especially for radiography and confined space work
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to shipyard safety regulations
- Maintain good housekeeping and equipment handling practices
- As-and-when instructed by the QA Manager
Key Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of relevant NDT experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore, or marine industry
- Prior supervisory experience leading NDT technicians and coordinating inspection activities
- Good knowledge of classification society rules and international standards (ABS, DNV, LR, AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.)
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding details, ITPs, and technical specifications
- Familiar with radiographic safety requirements and confined space work procedures
- Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and documentation requirements
- Proficient in preparing inspection reports, WDRs, and maintaining calibration/inspection records
- Good communication and coordination skills with production teams, surveyors, and clients
- Able to work independently under tight project schedules and operational demands
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and compliance requirements
- Possess good problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Candidates with shipyard or marine conversion project experience will have an added advantage
